Barrier Series

The plywood I used for this series started as a site barrier near an Encinitas bank that was under construction. The barrier was first painted on by Santos Orellana, a Maya Pop Style artist whose vision often takes shape with bold, dark line work. When the construction was complete, the barrier panels were auctioned off in a fundraiser. 454 Tattoo purchased three of the panels, but they ended up retired in the back of the shop for three years, forgotten and deteriorating—so I salvaged them. Contemplating how to paint on top of Santos’s black stripes helped give my art a new direction.
